Avoid heavy traffic on your lawn: dormant grass is easily broken and damaged.

Don’t start moving plants around yet, even if the ground is thawing. The wet soil will get compacted under your feet, and the plant roots will be shocked by the transition.

If you plan to start seeds indoors, get your trays, soil and grow-lights ready.

Prune hardy orchard trees, if you have any: apples, plums, pears, cherries.

Cut back any dead perennial foliage that you didn’t get to last fall.
